How the Australian Government Advertised
the Deadlines for a Centrelink Certificate

After some serious hunting I finally managed to locate a public advertisment (in The Australian) that informs thousands of New Zealanders that they must apply for a Certificate of Status no later than 25th February 2004 to (re)gain their status as a permanent resident.

This same advertisment was presumably published at the same size in other major Australian papers on the same day (10th January 2004). I have been advised that it was also published previously on the 8th August 2003.

Apart from this easily missed small newspaper ad placed for an entire duration of only 2 days, and over 4 months apart, this seems to be the extent of the Governments' advertising effort - there were no television or radio ads to speak of. Even a TAFE college managed to afford a larger ad to advertise a Career in Athlete Development.

So if you wondered why you never heard about all of this, then now you know...
